Purpose
The purpose of Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. is to present a Christian alternative to the students and/or faculty on college/university campuses, to minister to the needs of the whole person (spirit, soul, and body), and to promote an attitude of academic excellence among its members.
Core Values
Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. focuses on four core values called the L.I.F.E. Values:
LEADERSHIP
INTEGRITY
FAMILY
EDUCATION
One Family, Two Entities
Alpha Nu Omega's family structure sets it apart from other fraternities/sororities. The fraternity and sorority share one name, one constitution, one national board, and the same colors (navy blue, gold and white). We are a family, and we often work together as one. Yet, Alpha Nu Omega is one organization with two distinct entities – a fraternity and a sorority. The fraternity and sorority hold separate orientation processes and manage different outreach initiatives.
Non-Hazing Policy
Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. is a non-hazing organization. The National Executive Board of Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. defines hazing as “any activity involved in orientation which causes, or is likely to cause, bodily danger, physical harm, or personal degradation or disgrace resulting in physical or mental harm to any member or prospective.”
ANQ National Cause
Campaign for "Hope For Life"
In 2005, the ANΩ National Convention & Leadership Conference was held in Virginia Beach, VA. During a grand session, National President Emeritus Curtis M. Brown presented about the rise of suicide and depression on college campuses. He challenged the Alpha Nu Omega family to develop a plan which could counteract the issue on our campuses and in our communities. The challenge required an organizational assessment of our capability in addressing the issue.
In 2006, Visionary Founder experienced the loss of one of her children due to suicide. Out of this loss, the Campaign 4 Peace of Mind, Inc. was birthed. Alpha Nu Omega, at that time, became a foundational supporter of this campaign.
In 2010, under the leadership of Visionary Founder Russell, ANΩ selected Mental Health as the primary cause of its organization. As a family, we have been charged to take on this cause and to promote healthy living: spirit, soul and body.
In 2011, the National Board adopted Hope for Life as the name of the Mental Health Cause.
If you are struggling with depression or thoughts of suicide, call 1-800-273-TALK.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
~ Philippians 4:7-8
